  1. Depends

Does your own bank do good deals? with little to no charges?

Also depends on if you're talking about sterling or dollar?

I would change some cash as you will need euro for a taxi/bus from the airport and taxi's from the airport are exhorbitantly priced. (It costs anything from 25 to 35 euro to travel by taxi from the airport to most of the suburbs in Dublin so be prepared. Bus fare into the city will be around 1 euro 70/90 depending where you're going. Also Depends on if you are going to just make one big change when you get here as they do charge for changing. Look up the rates at various banks such as Ulster Bank, A.I.B. or Bank of Ireland to find the best exchange rates and costs. I think Banks are better than the exchange bureaus. Have a good trip.

  2. I live in Ireland, and a freind often comes over, she went into my bank to change some money up, and the teller said she would be better to just use her credit/debit cards and he recommended her not to change up cash because the rate of exchange.

  3. I would change your cash whenever you reach ireland as you are likely to get a better exchange rate for the euro.  I live in Northern Ireland (which uses the UK Pound) so I always go over the border to get pounds exchanged  to euros

also the petrol is much cheaper over the border

  4. I have found that using cash machines and converting your cash using your debit card where you are is often better value than changing money before you travel.

Both on trips to Spain and Greece in the last two years I changed some money before I went and found after returning when comparing rates and charges it had been cheaper using the cash machines abroad.

Do be careful though you are a stranger and people notice you, so use machines inside the banks if you can and put your money away before you move away from the machine.

  5. Change your cash there, or just use ATMs when needed. It's all very accessible. There are kiosks/booths in the airports that will do this for you as well. You really only need enough for the fare from the airport - I'd change the rest as needed in town.

I generally just use my credit card and occasionally pulled money out for small things and tips in the pubs.
