I am trying to call my family. i can hear their voice, but they cannot hear me...what could be the problem?

its a telephone call, not a computer to computer call.

  1. Bad connection.  If you can hear your own voice in your earpiece, then your microphone is working properly, and the signal is being sent out over the line.  Within the phone system, the eastbound traffic follows a different path from the westbound traffic; the signals are split near your end and re-assembled at the other end.  It is possible that one of these isn't working.  Try placing the call again.


  2. your receiver is junk,  aka you phone is junk.  time for an upgrade

  4. both end should be same version yahoo, messanger
