  1. A check usually isn't written on letterhead. Letterhead is stationery, used for writing letters.

    If someone sent you a check, why can't you just take it to your bank and deposit it?

    Were you expecting the IAAF (whoever they are) to send you a check? If not, why do you think they did? If this check came from somewhere out of the blue, chances are that somebody is trying to scam you. In that case, bring the check and all the accompanying documentation to your bank and ask one of the officers there to tell you if they think it's good.
