I have the stats for USA/Canada/Puerto Rico, UK, Ireland, Australia and Japan. I am looking for stats for France, Germany, Italy, Spain, South Africa and any other major breeding country.

  1. Jockey Club registries will be the source.  Only reports to respective thoroughbred authorities will be available.  There will be a margin of error for non registers or test foals.  South Africa, Brazil, Chile, France, Germany, Italy, and New Zealand have thoroughbred breeding programs as well.

  2. Are you after a specific year or would the latest available figures be ok?  I have the stats here in my office, provided to the International Breeders Meeting.

    2006 stats:

    GB - 5,486

    IRE - 12,004

    FR - 5,261

    GER - 1,159

    ITY - 2,259

    SWI - 30

    USA - 34,200

    CAN - 2,759

    JPN - 7,769

    ARG - 7,269

    BRZ - 3,079

    CHI - 1,824

    COL - 130

    AUS - 18,296

    NZ - 4,522

    SA - 2,839

I've just found a better site for you.  Go to this link and then go to page 36 of the report, it lists all Thoroughbred producing countries and their stallion, mare and foal stats.

Please note that some of the stats may differ slightly from other sources.  The stats I have listed myself were given to my office by the Racing Authorities in each country, so are probably the most reliable!
