I am trying to connect my pc to my tv with a s-video/s-video cable, but i only get black and white... why?

I am trying to connect my pc to my tv with a s-video/s-video cable, but i only get black and white... why? At the store that i bought the cabke they said it would work, but it only show black and white, someone who can help me?

the cable that will work for that is a cable called VGA cable not the s-video cables .
