Okay here are my options a 32inch Coby LCD flat panel television, a 42 inch JVC, Phillips or LG LCD Flat panel tv. Can anyone suggest based on the namebrands and size. I am an avid PS3 gamer and this TV would be used solely on the fact of me playing video games and watching dvd's.

  1. Unless your room is extremely brightly lit, I would look at a 42" Panasonic plasma.

The problems with burn in are a thing of the past, temporary image retention can be removed by putting snow on the screen for a few minutes and the overall picture quality over LCD is undeniable.

Plasma, with its speed, almost instant reponse time and far superior motion resolution is a must for gaming!

  2. LG, there reasonably priced and have good image quality

  3. I would say the LG, in my opinion they have the best quality of picture and the sound systems in all that I have used have been phenomenal. Definately excellent for using with games consoles...

  4. I had a 42" Philips and it was very decent. LG is right there with Philips as a mid-range LCD TV. JVC is kind of a netural brand. I didn't hear good things, nor bad. Coby is an off-brand and I would stay away from it.

If video gaming is your main use, then look for a TV with a good response time. Some Samsung TVs have 5 milisecond response time which is great for gaming.

120hz technology is also great for gaming, but their prices are much closer to the $2000 mark.

Look at LCD TV brands this way:

    High End: Samsung and Sony

    Mid Level: LG, Philips, Toshiba

Low End: Vizio, Westinghouse, Insignia, etc..

At the end of day, based on your needs, I would go for something like this:

    - 42" 1080P Vizio for $999 (Walmart/Costco)

    - 40" low end 1080P Samsung (LN40A530) or 40" low end 1080P Sony (KDL-40S4100) both go for $1199

    - Go all the way with a 40" 1080P 120hz automotion plus technology TV for Samsun or Sony for around $1600-$1800.

Good luck. Just remember to turn off your computer and go out there and let your eyes be the judge :)
