I am trying to find a brother that was adopted out in 1959-1960?

As far as I know, it was a private adoption, not sure if it was even legal! He was born at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach Fl, between Oct 1959 & February of 1960. I believe the family that adopted him planned to raise him as their own and they were from Texas, last name possibly Tedder! He would probably be dark haired and complexion as the father was of Latin heritage and my mother was Native american and Irish, both having dark eyes. I have the doctors name that delivered him and think that this doctor was involved with an attorney that set up this adoption. I feel like this is probably hopeless since there is so little to go on, but am still hoping! If anyone has any ideas for me, please let me know. Thanks in advance for your help!

  1. I have looked at the TX birth index.  You can access this information on ancestry.com.  They have a 14 day free trial if you want to check it out.  If the adoption was finalized in TX.  He may have been given an amended TX birth certificate.  There are not many Tedder's on the index for that time frame in TX. It's a long shot.

Also, try contacting these people and find out if they can tell you if the adoption would most likely been finalized in FL or TX.

  2. It is entirely possible that it was an illegal adoption. The South was pretty common for that. The bad news is that adult male adoptees seldom look for their birthparents, so it's often a one-sided search.  He may not even know he was adopted.

There are several search groups in Texas that may be able to help you. The falsified birth certificate is likely a Florida one, so the normal searches probably don't work. What IS helpful is that folks often never moved again after doing an illegal adoption. So, if they lived in Texas, they are likely still there.  I don't know that much about this kind of search.
