I just switched job and now I don't have to drive, i can ride my bike. I thought that this is going to reduce my car premium. I called my insurance company and they said that this is not the case. But I know that is not true. Does any one know of an insurance company that discounts based on driving distance?

  1. All companies rate based on usage of the car. Pleasure use is the lowest category but the difference between commuting and pleasure is not enough to be worried about. It's not considered a discount, it's a rating factor just like age or make/model of the car.

  2. Allstate insurance gives this kind of discount.  They can also rate your car as being used only for "pleasure use" since you do not drive it everyday.  You can probaby get away with 3,000 miles a year.  I can't believe your present insurance company does not offer you these?

  3. Well, most insurance companies have three rates, and one discount - the discount is if you have bus passes, and take the bus to work.  You need to show a whole year of bus passes.  Then the three rates are, pleasure use (usually to/from work less than 5 miles, less than 5000 miles a year), commuting, and business use (heavy milage).

If you were rated based on less than 5000 miles a year, you can't go any lower.

    Sorry.

  4. MOST companies rate on distance.  if the car is rated as to and from work now it needs to be changed to pleasure use.  call a local independent agent they can help set you up with a company that will rate you correctly.

  5. Sounds to me like it really screwed you in this deal. Maybe you could get good luck here.http://carinsurance.expertsupport.info/a...
