radio DJ?.. But it wasn't anything about school, but the DJ is still on the air to this day in Los Angeles...

That fooled me. I looked up every number 1 for the seventies and found nothing.

I think 'switched on' is right but the record only got to number 21 in 1978.

The music version by the Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band got to number 2 in 1977.
