There is a site called legacy.com that is an online spot for newspaper obits country wide.  I do know there is a search field that you can put in the name.  Good luck.

This is an obit for a Carl Sipes that was living near Oakland California, and died in June on the ninth in 2007.  He was 62.  I hope that this is the right one!
