I recently lost a great oranda (RIP PUNK) And I found out the cause was because of feeding floating foods and have moved on to sinking foods! BUT today I went to 5 petsmarts and 1 local store and NO orandas that meet my requirments! I want a cute one that is happy and healthy maybe 2 or three inches! (yes I have a 20 gallon) I was considering ordering online but $25 shipping for a $5 fish seems expensive! Any ideas if you want you can give me other websites but please no expensive shipping!

  1. Sorry about your loss. Sometimes when fish are eating floating pellets they can suck in a bunch of air, which can get caught in their intestines and kill them. Sinking is a better choice for goldfish. Did they have any oranda's at all? If you have not found one that appeals to you, then I suggest either buying another type of goldfish, or waiting a few weeks and go back. You probably will not find any online site that won't charge an arm and a leg for shipping. For me to get fish shipped from an excellent company, it costs $68, even if I am ordering a few fish.

  2. Punk???he passed away..you mean Punk the oranda?? Oh my god...Aww..I am sooo sorry for your loss...ok..you know what..even with the sinking pellets soak them in a cup with the tank water at least for 5 minutes..I am really amazed to the levels the pellets absorb water and bloat...so soaking foods is absolutely necessary with goldfish...and Hikari sinking pellets is good...And Progold flakes are good for orandas..I use these...

Try a local mom and pop fish store..I found an awesome oranda there...Also there is an auction on Goldfish Connection going on..awesome 4-5 inch orandas..of course pretty expensive..you could try...Liveaquaria has some good orandas...I think you would always find shipping expensive with live fish..best bet would an lfs..take care..

  3. oh man punk was awsome

    maby they have pompom goldfish

they look like orandas only cooler

  4. Do you have a Petco store near you? If so try Petco because I work at one and we always have orandas. You can also go to www.petco.com and order it.

  5. Keep looking, sometimes (read again "sometimes") you can find the right fish in a petsmart, petco or even at walmart. So don't just buy any fish just because you are tired of looking for.  Every week petco and petsmart get new fishes so hopefully in one of those days you can get your new "punk". Even better you can ask at your local petco for special order and ask them to get some orandas.

    Hope you are lucky soon.

  6. i would go to ebay craiglist or liveaquaria.com you can also try walmart or petsmart.
