  1. Safety is nothing to ponder about, if you feel it may be even a little unsafe or old, get a new one.

  2. Most car seats expire 6 years from date of manufacture.

  3. Try contacting your insurance company. They should be able to tell you.

  4. A car seat for a child ????????

Many manufacturers now put "expiration" dates on their carseats.

Six (6) years is the general recommendation.

At most, 10 years is the accepted maximum lifetime of a carseat.

The reasons for these limits involve possible degradation of the plastic shell and other parts, the possible loss/breakage of parts, and the fact that older seats will often not meet current government safety standards.

  5. Most car seats expire 6 years after date of manufacture. It doesn't matter when it was bought, how its been stored or how much/little it's been used. Only when it was made. And this date should be on a label on the seat. Some seats also have imprinted somewhere on the seat "Do not use after__"

If you can't find a sticker with a date of manufacture or manufacture date there's a good chance the seat is so old the stickers have rubbed or fallen off.

Car seats expire b/c older seats do not meet current safety standards. Also, the materials they are made from degrade over time making it possible the seat could fail in an accident.
