  1. Good for you and I hope that you find a position!  Being an agent is a lot of fun, but also a lot of hard work....try local agencies instead of a company.  You should have better luck.  Did you get licensed??

  2. Because you are up front, you will sail through an interview.

Too bad you want the job prior to July...I hope to be opening the Ohio office then.  Oh, well.

Tip:  Do not bring too much attention to the credit problems.  Mention it in a very serious tone along with your plans to improve that situation.

Prior to the interview, pick a couple areas of insurance.  Learn a little about them.  Pick one area in which you would like to specialize.  Ask questions about that specialty.

Also, prior to the interview, do a bit of Internet research on the company with which you will speak.  Allow the interviewer to know you are really interested in that company.

Always be willing to mention how much you would like to work for that company.  Include reasons why you are the right candidate.

Have a few questions prepared in advance; have many answers prepared in advance.  Practice saying each out loud.

  3. Well I'm a licensed P&C agent in Ohio. Are you wanting to join an agency that's already established or are you trying to start your own? Do you want to be independent or just represent one company?  Edit your question and I'd be more than willing to give you some help.

EDIT: So I can assume that you at least have your P&C license. Just go around to local agencies and tell him you have your license and that you want to get your foot in the door and start working for them. Be assertive and show them you know what you're talking about.

  4. I got hired as an insurance agent through Bankers Life & Casualty.  Believe me, if they are desperate enough for agents (& usually they are), they'll work around that credit.  I know they did for me...my credit was horrible.  I was a single mother, that had a house foreclosure due to divorce & a ton of other bad credit & they hired me.
