Ok so a play basketball for my high school, and during the season I was the slowest on my team. Summer here starts in 2 weeks, and I really want to improve my running ability, and get in to the best shape i can be in, and blow everyone away when the season starts in october.

My Idea to do this was

1. Join the summer soccer team and play soccer in the fall, cause I love soccer and there is a lot of running

2. start out slow, start with like running and walking 2 miles in the morning, and at night, then increasing it as it gets easier

3. Swimming / biking / basketball playing

Personally I hate running, but it is a big part of the 2 sports I love, SOCCER and BASKETBALL. I hear people say they love running, and I want to be one of those people.

My question is what is the best way to become one of those people. And What do you think of my ideas. And do you have any good running plans

  1. Do wind sprints...It will get you very fast quickly!

  2. When you first start running to build endurance it sucks, you will feel out of breath and out of shape a lot but the best way to get your self in shape for running is to start out simply jogging 15-20 minutes a day and each week add 5 minutes until you reach your goal time, you'll start to feel great during and after your run and will not have as much energy on the days you don't run!

Also, it is easiest to pick the same time of day to run in order to motivate yourself at the beginning... I like to do it right when I wake up so that I'm half asleep for the first ten minutes of my run, then when I finally wake up it feels like I barely ran at all!

  3. i never ran until my jr yr in highschool...i tried cross country for the heck of it, and just running every day made me fall in love with the sport....any sport is a natural drug, they release dopamine, which is something that drugs release too...just a more extreme amount...i swim and run every day, and i love every minute of it...my advice would just be stick to running every day and as you get more used to it, get in better shape, it will become more natural than walking...it has with me

  4. i have a great summer trining program used for runners in XC but you won't want to double that w/ soccer (and your looking for more gility then endurance) if you want to improve endurnce grab a friend and go on a 45 min run once a day every day til b-ball season and as it gets easier run for longer (running with a friend makes running a social time and eases the boredom...also don't run the same route every day mix it up a bit)...as for your speed you may want to throw in a couple of 2x 400m +3x(600m+400m+200m) every two or three days...hope this helps good luck and have fun!

  5. Running sucks when you start because if you're not used to it....it is hard.  The more you run, the easier it becomes and you will start to enjoy it more and more.

I used to hate it......now I can't go two days without it.... I've been running for about 18 years.

  6. i am trying to do the same thing. i hate running right now, but i know that getting in shape is the best thing to do. your plan sounds great! in fact, I had similar ideas! go you!
