I am trying to help somebody come to the US on an H2B visa. I was wondering if they can get a part time job at a second company when they get here? Or is there another law that says they can only work for the company listed on their visa?

  1. They could work for another company part-time if that second company also submitted an I-129 to get the person classified as an H-2B to work for them.

An H-2B could work for three or more companies, but each company would have to submit a petition, and each petition would have to be approved.

Ordinarily, H-2B's work for only the company that petitioned for them, but other H-2B petitions coulds be approved, and as long as the approval of the petition did not involve a change of status to another nonimmigrant status, that would be fine.
