I am trying to make an excel spreadsheet,but when i try typing a # in the cell, it makes it a month and date?

how can i type something in (like 11-8013) with out it converting it into Nov-8013??? Thanks!

  1. Go to Insert. Select Symbol. Go to the subset basic latin. Select the # sign and press insert.

    There are lot of ways to that..

    1. Before typing change the format of the cell to text and type 11-8013

    2. Type '11-8013

  4. If you begin with an apostrophe, the cell is recognized as text and so, '11-8013 will show as 11-8013.

  5. Right click on the cell, go to Format Cells.  Choose the Number tab, should already be on it, and select Text.  Then just choose OK.  Then you can type whatever you want and it will leave it that way.
