  1. Depends on the level of skill in your group. Usually 120-150 yards away gives all a fighting chance to snug one up close.

No circle is needed. THE CLOSEST to the pin wins!

  2. The thing to do is pick a decent par 3, maybe 140-170 yards max.  Then you place a flexible tape measure by the green with a clipboard.  As the groups play, they will record who is the closest to the pin.

Make sure you express on the clip board that the distance should be measured from the closest edge of the cup, so there is no confusion or wiggle room.

As with the game of golf on a whole, the players are on their honor about the whole thing.

  3. You should probably put the hole between 150 and 175 yards away.

I'd then put a circle that radiates 15 feet from the pin.

This distance and sized circle is typically the area you want to be in when you play a low iron Par 3.  People will probably play anything from a 9 iron to a 7 iron for that distance.

  4. The shorter the hole the easier it will be to hit (in theory)

Pick something which is after the front 9, and not too close to the end.

Maybe something like 11th to 15th. This gives players time to warm up and not think just about the pin.

What our players do is agree to a pin on the tee and then if nobody hits it, its goes to the next par 3.

Therefore if no one in the first group hits it, they mark up the next par 3 if they don't hear about anybody hitting it behind.

You don't need a circle, closest to the pin wins, and when somebody hits the green stick a tee peg in with a peice of paper with a name

  5. At least 150 yds.  Using a small golf pencil with a card on it stuck in the green for the closest person to write their name on. It also gives a target to the next group.  Remember to put a sign on the tee reminding everyone it is a CTP hole.  You can do a  blue card for men and a pink card for women if both are playing.  You can also check with the pro shop at the club you are playing - they sometime have a neat measuring tape device or sign marker device with pencil to use.
