I am trying to record

I am trying to record from my hand held video recorder to a DVD-R on my VR3840. I put in a new disc. Attach the red white and yellow cables from the camera to the front of the Go Video and select "setup" and then go to disc and under disc I try to select "initialize" but it won't choose it. It's "grayed" out. How can I get this recording made please?
