I am trying to run disk defragmenter, and all I get is "disk defragmenter could not start"?

  1. there must b some bad file record on your hard drive...

    use chkdsk //f option first..

    it may prompt you for restart your computer..

    do what ever it says ..

    and after that use disk defragmenter..

    or use any other disk defragmenter  


  2. Windows requires 15% free space to run Defrag, JKDefrag can be run from a usb stick:

    When you extract the files select JKDefrag.exe, just double click and let it run, preferably when you are not using the computer.

    Another alternative is Defraggler:

    With many defragmenting programs you defrag the whole drive, but with this one you have the power to defrag specific files or folders as well as the complete hard drive if you want to.

    Edit:

    It could be that you have corrupt files, open My Computer, right click Drive C, select Properties, click on Tools Tab, under Error Checking click Check Now and tick both boxes on the next window, it will tell you that a reboot is required to carry out these operations.
