The linear distance from the river to the pump is about 100', the lift is about 15 ft. what kind of pump should I get?

  1. I am not offering any tech knowledge, but I do know that in the UK, drawing river water for use, would require an agreement from the local water authority. Be careful!

  2. With only 15ft of lift required your cheapest electric  would be a sump pump .But any would do(be sure build a wire screen cage to keep the vegetation out) .You should consider 1/2 hp or larger.A gas powered pump would be sheapest to opperate.

  3. You might be able to use a ram pump which doesn't require a power source other than the flow of the river.

  4. Great link # 1, Kudos.

I suspect however, that the pump, the volume it can deliver, the distance and lift given, won't allow any real pressure at any discharge point.

To deliver the same volume, and PSI as your house plumbing, for example, you might need something similar in power to a well pump. The physics involved, suggest to me that the pump would have to be adjacent to the siphoning point, and PUSH any volume UP and across that distance.

The PSI you might need, might not be attained from the pump offered in the link, but I'm saving the offered info. in any case.

    Just my two "sense"
