I received a laptop with a damaged version of XP, and no CD. I have my own XP cd to reinstall, but I can't boot from it. I have tried using maxblast, linux disks etc, but nothing will boot from the cd. Is there a way to format the drive from startup with some kind of cd?

  1. you can install xp using a dos disk to boot and then go to i386 folder

    >> winnt ( to install xp)

  2. First thing to check, is the XP CD bootable? If it is bootable, try checking its BIOS settings for BOOT PRIORITY. It should be set to "CD/DVD". If you have done this and still it wont boot, check if the CD/DVD drive is working. Or check if your CD is readable.

  3. no you will need a disk to set it up (or major programing skills)

ok you said "no cd"?   Does that mean no cd drive or no install disk?

if you have an install disk use that.

you may need to set up the boot order (cd-rom first)

if for some reason you can not install
