    However, it is not uncommon to refer to someone whose attitude and spirit in handling their job duties as being professional in their manner of doing so.  For instance you can be a clerk in a business and show that you are aware that the success of the business is important, deal with the customers in a way that shows you realize that effects the bottom line(profit), you don't get involved with gossip among coworkers and your employer will regard you as a professional.

    Edit: I might mention that a customer might be called a customer, patient, patron, client etc.  He is the one who buys yours or your employer's products or services.
