  1. Not necessarily identical, but definitely as close as you can get.  I suggest trying an electronic tuner, and save the headaches.  Try this in the mean time.

  2. why not get a digital tuner ? it will train your ears to the correct pitch.

I recommend the Korg GA 30

  3. No it soesnt have to be exact it never will be exactly the same, but the closer to the sound the better. have fun playing guitar! :)

  4. Yes, they have to sound very very very alike.

Or you could just buy an electric tuner which would save a ton of time.

  5. They will sound very similar but never the same. And yes to your question

  6. Yes. I prefer using harmonics -- where you touch the string ever-so-gently just above the 5th and 7th frets. The harmonic on fret 5 of low E should match fret 7 on A string and so on. This does NOT work when tuning 2nd string B from G. Beginners have a hard time with the concept of not fretting the string but I greatly prefer it to using a tuning device--which I only use to get an initial standard to tune from.

  7. The G on the D string will sound thicker than the open G. There's an easy way to get by that though.

Play both of the notes at the same time.

Listen closely for the notes phasing in and out, like it's getting louder and softer.

The farther the "vibrations" are apart, the closer you are.

Do this until you get an absolute identical sound. You'll know it when you hear it.

  8. I agree.  Many beginners have given up over the frustrating task of tuning the guitar.  I didn't give up, but I was always frustrated when I finally began to practice.  An electronic tuner is the best investment  you can get if you want to play the guitar.  They don't have to be expensive,  but do yourself a favor and get a tuner.  Yes, they have to match.
