I am unable to show up to court for a traffic violation. Is there another way I can put in a not guilty plea?

I was caught speeding (75 in 65, actually 81 but the cop lowered it so it will count as a nonmoving violation) coming back from a friend's wedding trying to get home before dark and a storm was suppose to be approaching. I got the ticket in Iowa, where I went to school. However, I graduated and moved back to Cali the day after the ticket. I don't want it to affect my insurance so I want to try and fight it. I have a CA driver's license. Does anyone know what I can do? Can i enter a written plea?

  1. OK, first, it's GOING to count as a moving violation - the reduction in speed makes it a minor violation, though, instead of a major violation.

If you can't make the appointment, you'll have to hire a lawyer to show up on your behalf.  Or, you'll automatically lose.

Is that your defense?  You were trying to get home before dark?  You'll lose.   You should have left earlier.

  2. call the court or look in the back of the ticket, or tell them you where drunk when you got the ticket and you forgot where you put it

  3. You can get a lawyer to show up in your stead but given you were speeding (and you admit it here - and maybe to the cop) you don't have much of a case.

In some states, you can make a written statement, but the chances in my opinion of winning (using written statement) is slim.

    Good Luck...
