I have only played about 5 times, been to the driving range a bunch. I hit the ball pretty well and can control where I hit it pretty well for a novice, I have a very good learning curve. The current clubs I play with are very old, from around the early 80's. I want to purchase a good set that I will use for many years to come. I plan on hitting the range a few times a week and a bunch of my buddies play fairly often.

I was hoping someone could recommend a good set of clubs for me to learn on and play with through beginner and intermediate (a few years hopefully).

Any other info you wanna offer a beginner would be helpful also. Thanks. Feel free to email me if you are willing to chat about the game and help me out.

Thank You

  1. All depends, im kind of in the same boat i used an old set for about 2 years bought them used from some old dude and felt like i needed some new ones after improving. There are some new generation clubs still learning myself but they are branded as (Game improvement clubs, maximum game improvement clubs, maximum forgiveness clubs, players clubs (blades), oversized, hybrids etc. if you can goto a demo day at a range or even some local golf shops that allow you to swing some metal try that or just do some research on sets.

Who know's you may play better with a set thats worth $200 as opposed to one thats $900? I have some clubs on order that were custom fitted for free and are cast iron which from what ive read tend to last longer then most forged sets, basically the entry level set for Mizuno, the MX-19's to be exact. I would of loved to have gone with the grain flow forged MX-25's but just can't justify it at the moment. Depending on your height and swing all that you may benefit from getting clubs custom fitted, this will be my first time being fitted and found that i needed 1/2'' extra length and some more lie angle. The extra length felt like heaven compared to the previous clubs ive used off the shelf stock. There are some interesting vid's on youtube and googlevid that show how important lie angle can be, and club height for setting up. So if your doing well and looking for an edge perhaps look at talking with a pro and being fitted.

  2. i think the best thing to do is find a set of cheap clubs. obviously there is no need in you spendin boocoos of money on a sport your new to.

i play kzg irons and i LOVE LOVE LOVE them. im a girl--but i play guy clubs...they arent hard to swing at all. the grips that they come in are amazing as well.

if you ever want to talk about the game, email me i'd be glad to help!!

    good luck
