  1. THIS COULD BE SERIOUS!

Call your pediatrician now!! It could be Anaphylaxis from an allergic reaction to the citrus.

The bubble blowing saliva thing could be the reaction she would get if her tongue has swollen.

Many babies have reactions to citrus fruits. Some are true allergic reactions involving the immune system, but most are simply skin irritations caused by acid and oils in the fruit. Since babies’ mouths and skin are so sensitive, and irritations are common, it’s recommended to wait until after a baby is 1 year old to try citrus fruits.

It can be hard to tell whether your baby’s reaction to citrus is an allergy or irritation. Both can lead to mouth sores, swollen lips and a red rash around the mouth shortly after eating the fruit. But in addition to skin reactions, true allergic reactions can also involve the gastrointestinal, respiratory and cardiovascular systems, leading to other symptoms including swelling of the tongue and throat, vomiting, diarrhea, hives, itching, runny nose, wheezing, coughing, difficulty breathing and rarely even loss of consciousness. True allergies are also more common in children if one or both parents have them, since they tend to be hereditary.

To confirm whether your son has a true allergy to citrus fruit (and maybe other allergies as well), your doctor needs to do a blood test for allergies or refer your son to an allergy specialist for skin tests. If your son does have a citrus allergy, the doctor can help you plan his diet to avoid allergic reactions and prescribe medications in case of an allergic reaction. In addition, a consultation with a nutritionist can be helpful to plan a nutritious diet and learn how to avoid exposure to citrus products. You should avoid oranges, tangerines, grapefruit, lemons, limes, mandarins, tangelos and pomelos, as well as juices from these fruits.

Be sure to read food labels (e.g., on baked goods, premixed cereals, flavored drinks, tea, candy, medicines) to avoid foods with orange or lemon extract or peels. Ask the allergist for a more complete list of foods and additives to avoid. Make sure your son still gets enough Vitamin C by eating other fruits such as papaya, mango, watermelon, cantaloupe and blueberries as well as vegetables such as green and red peppers, potatoes, broccoli and spinach. Since strawberries and tomatoes are not related to citrus fruits, it would be unlikely that your son would also be allergic to them. True allergies to strawberries and tomatoes are rare. But strawberries and tomatoes are both acidic and can lead to irritation reactions. So if your son had a non-allergic or irritation reaction to the citrus fruits, he could also have an irritation reaction to the acids in strawberries and tomatoes.

  2. Sounds like a normal baby. The head concern could be signs of a ear ache or ear infection.

  3. sound like a normal 9month old to me maybe check out the head thing if it doesnt stop in a few days but she may have just discovered how to do it and thinks its fun. you probably shouldnt give her to much oranges till she is potty trained the acid could giver her a diaper rash

  4. Wow, relax mom. She sounds fine. The only thing that might be just a little worrisome is the twitching. You said she just started that today? Give it a few days to a week. If it gets worse or persists then take her to her doc just to be on the safe side. Babies cry, they find things on the floor and eat them, they've all eaten a piece of an orange peel and all blow bubbles with their spit. Calm down, I'm sure everything is fine.

  5. 1.  I'm sure she will be fine, there is nothing wrong with orange peels

    2.  Maybe she has a little bit of an upset tummy.

    3.  Babies make spit bubbles all the time

    4.  I'm sure that's not the first time that she has eaten something off of the floor, and you can almost count on it not being the last. My daughter would eat the dogs food out of the dish, and one time she ate a chocolate bar that was over 5 years old.  (It was one of those bars that was a birth announcement too)

Relax and take a deep breath, she's going to be fine.

  6. she seems fine to me, keep a closer eye on her, she is a baby and everything goes in the mouth right. as for the ear thing maybe she has an ear infection. I always say get advice from others but when in doubt take her to the doctors.

  7. All of it sounds normall, aside from the twitching.  I would not be overly concerned, but just mention it to her pediatrician at her next well-baby

  8. she sounds normal to me!

  9. If you stress about every little thing your child eats and does your going to drive your self crazy. Babies do all sort of weird and wonderful things and they are perfectly normal, MY son went through a stage when he would bang his head on the floor and the wall everytime he was tired or upset. Also if the rice and orange peel are the worst thing she puts in her mouth be grateful. I have 4 children and I have lost count of the amount of rubbish they have consumed and thay are always fine. My 10mth old is going through a faze where is licks everything including the dog. Everything she is doing is normal so stop worrying and enjoy this age because it passes so quickly.

  10. Sounds like a clone of my 9 month old boy!!!  :)

  11. 1. Don't worry, your baby should be eating solids now anyway and that little piece of orange peel will pass right through her system.

    2. She has probably figured out that she gets a reaction out of you if she creams in this way, best thing is just to stay calm and not let her sense your destress, otherwise she knows how to get you to do what she wants.

    3. My daughter does it too... a lot of them think it's a game and its just something they do. They havent figured out yet that they should swallow the saliva and not play with it.

    4. She wont die. Most babies at crawling age are notorius for sticking things in their mouths they shouldnt. It's rice, not a piece of a toy, so it will digest, and believe me her immune system should be able to handle the few germs that were on it by now.

    5. Maybe the twitch is just a new trick she's learnt... try and distract her when you see she's going to do it, then maybe she wont do it.

  12. 1. Orange peel is used in many cooking applications including marmelade, citron, alcoholic drinks, etc.  It can be eaten raw or cooked

    2.  Don't let her cry that long; but its normal if you let a baby become hysterical that they sound out of breath.

    3.  Yes blowing bubbles with spit is fun

    4.  And?  Mine eats gravel as much as he can get his hands on.  Wanna trade?

    5. Unless the movement is involuntary its fine.

  13. sounds just fine. . and it's funny u say she has that little twitch thing bc my son started doing that(10months) and he did it for like a week and I was SOOOOO worried. He would just start leaning his head to the side for no reason. haha. . he doesn't do it anymore though, thankfully!

  14. Question 1-4  don't worry STOP IT.
