  1. You could not pick a better area then: Aberdeenshire is "Castle Country". Options range from atmospheric ruins overlooking the sea (Slains, Dunnottar) to towers (Craigievar, Tolquhon) to magnificent houses full of historic furniture (Fyvie, Crathes, Castle Fraser ....), etc. List on reference below (remove the space).

  2. try slaine castle 25 miles from aberdeen in cruden bay the inspiration for  bram stokers dracula:-)

  3. You are spoilt for choice with castles, sea, hills and mountains.

A selection of thirteen of the world's most unique castles ranging from the fairy tale magic of Craigievar, to the rugged splendour of Kildrummy Castle ruins, to the elegant timelessness of the country house grandeur of Leith Hall.

Aberdeenshire's Castle Trail brings together some of the most splendid examples of castellated architecture on a clearly sign-posted tourist trail.  Then a little further distant is Balmoral, the grounds can be visited when the Queen is not in residence.  If you intend to visit several it would pay you to join the National Trust.

The coastline is varied and beautiful with everything from long sandy beaches (Fraserburgh)  to lovely little fishing villages (Pennan) to spectacular cliffs (Cruden Bay).

Then there is The Cairngorms National Park a spectacular landscape, from the wild tundra of the high mountain tops to the seclusion of the ancient pinewoods. Heather, moor, vivid with summer colour, and grand glens, haunt of red deer and golden eagle, are just some of the other habitats within the park.
