Any gift Ideas will be appreciated !

My mother-in-law is a simple housewife, She's in village, simple, and does not like to use use gadgets or electronic items etc.

I would like to take something which is bought from U.S.

I don't like to buy there locally and give, since i want to buy here before I leave.

  1. Well, you will never go wrong with art pieces, for instance handmade portraits on Oil, Acryl or Canvas. They really look classical! You simply select a nice photo - one of her most memorable ones or one taken in some beautiful landscape - and send it to the professional artists at http://www.paintyourlife.com to be turned into a unique portrait. It is a reliable address for all sorts of gift ideas for every occasion!

    If you are looking for an affordable gift urgently, the same company also has a studio for oil paintings reproductions. So, visit them at http://www.oil-paintings-reproductions.c... and take a look at their 'stock on sale'.

  2. get her a shawl / wrap...they always love those :-)

  3. Get kitchen stuff.

  4. Namaste

    ** some barettes,  pins and clips for her hair and black stretchable bands for her braid

    ** a package of safety pins to hold the pleats of her sari ......the US kinds are so much better made

    ** sewing needles,  thread,  little scissors and a basket with a lid to keep them in

    ** a soapdish and bars of soap,  facecloths,  little hand towels

    ** brushes:  hairbrush and comb,  nail brush,

    foot brush,  a loofah for her bath,  toothbrush (get several)

    ** a little lipstick brush so she can apply kajal easily if she wears it ....some packages come without a brush,  just in a little pot .... I have seen village women using a little stick from the garden for this,  but a brush would be welcome

    and don't forget a little mirror that will stand on its own so she can see what she is doing

    ** a loofah for her bath and a pumice stone for her heels

    ** a nail clipper (large for both hands and feet) and a metal nail file or two

    ** handkerchiefs

    ** some moisture cream for her face (two jars)

    ** a small box for supari,  etc

    ** some pretty candles or colored votives and little packages of matches

    ** kitchen stuff:

    *  a swivel-blade vegetable peeler or two

    *  a small knife

    *  some plastic scrubbers or brushes

    *  a nice stainless steel pan with a lid

    *  and two or three potholders

    *  two or three flat trays,  like baking trays with edges (jellyroll pans) ... she can sort her beans and rice that way,  and use them to keep things like balls of chapathi dough,  and maybe she would like some kitchen towels to cover them with http://www.gourmetsleuth.com/pDetail.asp...

    *  a basket for her chapathis

    *  a water bottle

  5. Get a jacket, whenever I go to India from US, that's always what my relatives want...or you could get some nize cooking supplies...like a grater or something that makes making sabjees easier...?

  6. India dress like sari.shute piece.

    India famous Darjeeling tea.

  7. I’ll have to suggest www.creanta.com

    They turn any image, including your favorite photograph into a hand made painting (even Andy Worhal style paintings).

    Maybe a painting of her or the two of you, or of her parents?  They ship in rolled in a tube so no problem carrying it.  Or they can ship it to an address in India so you can frame it there as a surprise.

    What I liked of them is that they at reeeeaally good at capturing the physical likeness and they are very, very affordable.  I was impressed with the results.

    They do portrait, pets, landscapes and anything that means something to you (like your first car, favorite vacation spot, etc).

    They’re the nicest people… I was late with my friend’s gift, so they even made a custom card and mail it to her to notify her that a special gift was coming her way.  I highly recommend them.

    Best wishes!!
