I have looked on the weather site but some info from fellow travellers would be appreciated. We are visiting Petra, Amman Damascus Palmyra and Aleppo. Any info on the weather and what suggestions you have for clothing is much appreciated.

  1. Winter in north of Jordan is quite cold, snow is not unusual even in Petra. Weather in Aqaba is milder, you can swim, snorkel and dive but do not expect summer heat.

At this site you can see weather info from previous years just click on  "Histrory & Almanach"

  2. i advise you to visit lebanon!!!!!!!!!!!!! the weather in lebanon in winter is cold but not like europe!!!!!!! wish you enjoy your visit to syria and jordan :) btw lebanon is very close to syria

  3. Winter is Cold in Syria, so bring your jacket and heavy clothes (hat and gloves are recommended). I think the tempreature usually is between 8 to 15 C in December. Usually, rain days are few in december, so I hope you are lucky so you can move freely. Any way, rain view would be nice. The colder months are January and February where Damascus and its suburb may be covered by snow.

About Jordan I am not sure as I am Syrian, but I think Amman weather is similar to Damascus while Petra is Warmer.

    Have nice holiday

  4. I went to Jordan in December and while it was warm enough to go diving in the red sea (with a thick wetsuit mind you), it got quite cold, especially during the evenings in the the desert, I would definitely bring some sweaters- a mistake I made by only taking 1 or 2 flimsy cardigans.... It can get quite warm though so I would suggest you take a variety of clothing suitable from 15-30 degrees.

    Have fun Petra is awesome!

    Winter in Syria:

Winter can also be rather unpleasant. The winter rains can make sightseeing difficult, but if you're lucky, a blanket of snow may cover Damascus and the high altitudes. Bear in mind that the cheaper hotels may not have heating.

The best time of year to go to Syria is spring (March to May) - OR - Autumn (September to November) is the next-best choice.

    As for Jordan:

The best time to visit Jordan is in spring or autumn, when you can dodge the baking sun of summer and the freezing winds of winter. Although winter can be bitterly cold in most of the country, the Red Sea area and Aqaba are still very pleasant.

Jordan's climate varies dramatically from one end of the country to the other. The Jordan Valley can be incredibly hot in summer, around 40°C (104°F), while Amman and Petra occasionally get snow in winter.

The Plateau area is usually warm and dry, fluctuating between the low 20°Cs (low 70°Fs) and high 30°Cs (high 90°Fs), while the desert suffers extremes of temperature - baking dry heat interspersed with freezing winds from central Asia.

Note also that most of the excellent ecotourism projects operated in Jordan's Dana, Wadi Mujib and Ajlun nature reserves only operate between April and October.
