Question:

I am vulnerable to loss?

I don't often get emotional, but the other day I was listening to this song about a boy whose girlfriend dies in his arms. I started crying a bloody river! Really, lots of tears...

That got me thinking... The only time I get emotional is when someone experiences loss. The ending of the new King Kong movie made me cry (when Kong gets shot my the airplanes and the main character is looking at him and crying), so did the ending of the game Half-Life 2 episode 2 where this girl Alyx witnesses her dad being murdered...

Also the movie "the green mile", when the prison guards have to execute John Coffey, even though they kinda love him.

I didn't cry when my grandmother died. I felt...emotionless...even though my mom etc were crying.

What's going on here?

  1. Things happen quite differently in real life than in the movies. Movies overemphasize everything and you see the entire story in about 2 hours.  I think you might have been in shock after your grandmother died. Shock makes you numb. And, everybody experiences grief differently. Often grief doesn't manifest itself until much later. I'm sure that as you remember things you did with your grandmother, or get a whiff of someone wearing the same perfume as she wore, you'll feel emotions stirring within you.
