I am wanting to buy a gerbil at petco?

i am wanting to buy a gerbil at petco but the nearest one is 75 miles away does anyone know what they cost there

I agree with Kasey. Gerbils are social, and should always be kept in same s*x pairs. A pair of males or a pair of females is fine. Two isn't much more work than one.

The price probably varies from place to place, but I think at my local PetCo, gerbils are around $14-$15.

As Kasey said, PetCo isn't the best place to get a small animal. Opt to adopt. Check out http://www.petfinder.com for gerbils in shelters in your area. If not, try finding a responsible breeder. Here's a good site:

Ummm....get rat. They are much better and they rarely bite unlike gerbils who bite a lot.

Gerbils should always be bought in pairs of the same s*x from the same litter, preferably.

PetCo is kind of a terrible place, which I have seen first hand, to get gerbils.

I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY suggest checking PetFinder.com for abandoned gerbils who are in need of homes and already have cages and are used to people.

They don't cost much. They can cost from ten dollars to thirty dollars. Not very expensive, but the cage for a gerbil can vary from as little as twenty dollars, to more than one hundred dollars.

For a cage just grab an old fish tank at a yard sale and put a wood frame with screen over it on for a lid. They don't cost a lot.
