It´ll take you all of about ten minutes.

And it has nothing, whatsoever to do with cooking!  It´s root is in Charles, and my guess is that it´s actually Charlene, the French female version of Charles (actually, one of several) with the l removed, for whatever reason.

Char as in charcoal, and ene as in elkene, a primirive fish which was often quick grilled over coals.
