I am wondering if I can cut the long gone flower stems off my Yucca flaccida? They're heavy and pulling over.

The plants are well established and thriving.

  1. Absolutely, you can always deadhead a plant of its spent flowers.  Occasionally it will encourage a new flower; in the case of yucca though, I doubt it.

  2. Yes, I hate doing it, but I do it every year.  They take away the beauty of the plant.    Its looks so much nicer once your done.

I should be doing it now, but Im doing this instead LOL

  3. That is what I do every summer. They are a waste of the plant's energy besides looking bad.

My yuccas have thrived for years in New England so it obviously doesn't hurt them.
