I am wondering if I need a degree to become a wedding planner?

I live in what most people would call a "rural" area. To obtain a degree I would have to do an online class. I am also teaming up with some friends who are starting a catering business and have others that I can promote to the customers and there families. I have expirence with planning weddings and setting those plans into action. I need some advice and I prefer from someone who has been in my shoes or is in the business. But any advise is welcomed!

  1. Living in a 'rural' area is a good thing. Consider gas prices these days! However, since you already have experience in the industry, a degree probably isn't required in order to succeed. But, generally speaking, a degree in your career field, especially if it is an advanced degree, usually equates to a higher salary.

If you're considering going into a program, would you be enrolling for your Bachelors or Masters? I think you should pick relevant degree programs that would further your capabilities as a wedding planner (check my first link) such as business (MBA, business administration, business management, or business leadership).

    Good luck.

  2. Well, I have a PhD in wedding planning, so jobs really just fly right at me. I suppose you could start with a high school diploma if you live in a "rural" area.

  3. you don't need a degree to do this kind of BUUULSHYT

  4. The answers never cease to amaze me here. I was in the wedding business for over 22 years in Southern California. There is no degree to my knowledge in the wedding business. If there was do not even think of wasting your time.

Just go out and do it!!! It's not that hard and will not take much start-up money to begin.

  5. You just need to be creative!

  6. no

  7. My brother does this kind of business, and he did it right out of high school, but he plans to go to school at the same time, girl if your good at what you like to do, and you have the experience, no degree is needed, good luck<3
