  1. There are no tricks to electrical diagnosis.  Don't play with coil voltage, it will mess you up.  Use an electric meter and check the continuity of the wires leading to the coil, check the continuity of the coil, check to see that proper voltage is reaching the coil.  Continuity is checked by measuring the Ohms of resistance, if your meter doesn't have a setting for Ohms then it's the Greek symbol for Omega.  Use a wiring diagram for your bike, if you don't have a wiring diagram (in the back of your service manual), then let us know what year/make/model your bike is and we'll tell you where to download one.

  2. stick a plastic handled screwdriver in the wire and hold it close to the engine metal. spin the motor and Lock for a spark to jump to the engine. MAKE SURE THERE IS NO FUEL PRESENT!!!!!!!! It will ignite and could cause severe burns!!

  3. The plug may be shorted.

tho I use a spark tester, which clamps between the plug and the wire, the s***w driver method works well.

Sparkplugs are made cheap, buy new ones
