We have a 3 year old Congo African Grey. Today we noticed that he has a wierd thing on his face underneath his beak. Under the lower part of his beak where there is usually a hole, it looks like there is inflamed skin or 2 bumps that kind of resemble a tiny peach. He hasn't displayed any behavior that is abnormal. His eyes are clear and he doesnt appear to be sick otherwise. His appetite has been fine, and he hasnt had any new foods. I hope someone may have had a similar experience or could at least tell me what I should do. thanks in advance.

  1. May be a tumor.

  2. I had a gray as well. This what you say(if I'm not making mistake) is normal. However, best work is to show him to a vet. (& not to be worried)

  3. To be safe rather than sorry take him to an avian vet for a well bird checkup.  Birds don't display any symptoms of illness until late when they are very sick, something like this may take a longtime to begin to bother him or he could start by simply plucking trying to reach it if it is bothering him it may start out as small plucking you wouldn't really notice until there is a bare spot and that could lead to over grooming and then onto compulsive plucking. If let go and it is something that will eventually develope further it may be to late to treat it catch it now and it will possibly result in treating and curing it.
