Hello everyone,

I am a 25 year old female who has always been in good health. I eat a well balanced diet along with regular exercise. A couple weeks ago i became sick. I had strep throat and a stomach virus, it was horrible!!! My doctor gave me a "Z-Pack" and after 2 days of it getting worse my doctor gave me 2 antibiotic shots and also prescribed me "Cipro" and "dexamethasone". After a couple days I was feeling better; however I still have diarrhea and horrible indigestion. I have had diarrhea now for 2 weeks and it is usually 3-4 time day! The indigestion is all day and all night, also I have never suffered from indigestion before this beside when I was 8 months pregnant! My stomach is now sore on the outside. It feels hard and is sore to touch. Any advice I would gretaly appreciate!

Thank you

  1. It is obvious you are in distress.  I would contact your doctor or consider going to the emergency room.  With diarrhea this extensive you could be risking dehydration as well.  Don't put this off.

  2. This sounds like a serious bowel obstruction, I would go to the emergency room at a hospital. Not to worry you, but if it is this serious you could perforate your bowel and i really would do something about it soon to be safe.

  3. go to the ER. you could be taking so many meds which caused your stomach issues. As for the stomach being sore to touch it's because you have been using your muscles so much, they don't have time to relax.   You need to drink gatorade, don't eat anything heavy, saltines are fine.. drink the powerade/gatorade... anything with the extra salt and sugar you need to replenish. but don't drink it all at once, a little at a time.

go as usual, the common sense is see the doc, ER> and get the rest you need to help you recover. don't eat any fatty, heavy foods which will cause you to have more of an upset.

I had similar issues 3 years ago and it ended up being IBS.

  4. Amen to the first answer. Just putting this here in case you don't choose that right now as best answer and go.

  5. this is something for the ER not yahoo answers

    bestfriends mom is a nurse.

  6. It is the corticosteroid (most likely) combined with the antibiotic that is causing havoc with your digestive system.  These are the unfortunate side effects of taking such strong medications. Please call your doctor and tell him about the symptoms you are having.  He will have to either take you off the heavy meds you are on or at least change one of the medicines.  Hope you feel better soon!
