I am writing a letter to a Senator.How shoud I start? Dear Senator; Dear Sir; Gentleman; His Excellency: ????

It would be an official letter with serious matters in politest way of writing. Please help.

  1. He is not royalty so His Excellency wouldn't be proper ,though many believe they are.

    I would use Senator or Dear Senator, as that is his office title


  2. I believe the correct address would be 'Honorable Sir' or 'Honorable Senator'.

  4. l would write Dear Senator Smith..or who ever

    This is his title...so Senator it is.
