I am not resigning because I found a new job. I am resigning because I would like time to think about what I really want to do. I want to go back to graduate school, so I want to take the GRE.

I have been told by my supervisor that I was one of the greatest employees they have ever had.

  1. I, state your name, am resigning on _______, 2008.  I have choosen to further my education and would not be able to perform the tasks my job requires during this time.  I would like to thank you for providing me with the opportunity to work for such a great company.  I feel my time with the company has been a wonderful learning experience and has assisted in developing my skills.

    Something like that.

  2. Thats nice to hear i bet - but you do have to move on - simply state in the letter that you are not searching for other employment however you are looking for another career path instead....

  3. Yes.. I do get into this sort of 'pangs'.. what I would do is to take a a couple of weeks leave and go travelling..alone..

You could explain to your boss that you want to further upgrade yourself and maybe ask them to 'sponsor' you studies for a few years before coming back to them.. and if I'm the boss, I would do that.. 'cos,.. you would be an asset to the organisation..

  4. Just write the letter stating you have enjoyed your time with the company, you have learned a great deal; however you wish to continue in graduate school and want to devote your time to your studies.  Thank your supervisor for the support and leave on good terms as they may invite you back.  Good luck
