I am writing a story and need your help. What element or mineral, or substance, would your say is the most valuable substance on Earth to a nation or government? In the story, an unimaginably large deposit of some kind of substance creates global instability and threatens to turn the world order on it's head, and I am trying to think of what substance would be the best to put in the story.

For instance, a gold or platinum deposit the size of a football field? Destroys the gold standard, potentially making gold valueless? Diamonds?

Massive amounts of the right kind of uranium for nuclear power or weapons?

Oil?

Use your imagination and include what your think might be the short-term and/or long term consequences.

Thanks.

  1. What substance would you say is the most valuable on earth?

    Air we breath

    Water we drink

    Earth we stand on

Try a nuclear weapon at the magnetic pole with enough power to temporarily bobble the magnetic field. The earths magnetic field reverses every few million years; north become south. Probably causes all sorts of mayhem particularly with weather and navigation systems.
