  1. We have a leopard Gecko and he absolutely loves an empty paper towel tube.  I read about it in a Gecko book.  He hides in there all day!  I put it half over the undertank heatpad and half off the heatpad.  He moves around from warm side to cool side periodically.  Of all the items we have bought him he loves the tube the most.  Go figure!

Good choice by the way....we just love our Gecko.

  2. Yes if the tank is decent size

    what youll need:

    -heat lamps

-full metal screen(not plastic or glass!)

    -substrate(jungle bed or something)

    -heat pad/rock

    -a water feature

-a cool spot if it wants to get out of heat

    -nighttime red heat lamp

    -healthy food for it

read others for stuff i missed even though i dont think i did

  3. hey,

Although it is not a best decision, yes you can use a fish tank, however be sure not to put the lid on or your poor gecko will suffocate to death.

You need substrate such as slate, cage carpet or sand. Sand can cause problems if digested so it is best avoided.

It would be good to put a hiding for a gecko to make him feel more at home.

You also need the neccessary stuff such as UV tube, basking light and heater!

    Good luck with your gecko

  4. Well, if it is a gecko, I would put like, a small branch, some leaves, a small fake log, and some food/water. That would be good for a gecko. It also depends on how big the fish tank is to put th gecko in.

And, also, how big the gecko is.

    Good Luck!

  5. I own a gecko and trust me, its a good choice. I suggest getting a leopard gecko and if you do, go to an expo near you to get up to half price, and healthier, better quality lizards. i would put it in a 20 gallon minimum tank, and since leos cant climb, you dont have to have a top, i dont, but if you want one, i suggest a metal mesh wire top. i use a water dish (change every day) cage carpet (avoid sand, it can harm the geckos while they eat, but if you do, take the gecko out to feed and place in an area where there is no sand so they dont get impacted.) two "huts", hides, one on the cool side and one on the warm side, a small calcium dish, some decor, such as a couple basking rocks (just regular creek rocks, baked at 200 degrees farenheight in an oven, so they are sterilized. to do so, turn the oven to 200 farenheight, place items in, and turn oven off.) i use both a heating pad and a red heat lamp, but NEVER use a heat rock. they can cause severe burns to yur gecko. i also have a hammock, which isnt necissary because they dont climb, but mines just aboue her warm side hide, so she can bask in the heat light, however, she only goes up there to p**p. unusual, yes, butit works for her. i also reccommend leos because they are low maintenence, dont smell hardly at all, and are always smiling at you. if ou get one at a pet store, they can be up to 70$, but if you get one at an expo, i got mine for 35, but they range from 40 to 35 ish at the expos, and they are less prone to getting sick. i suggest, unless you have unlimited amount of money, dont get one off the internet because the prices are unbelievable, skyrocketing into the 500-700s.

  6. if the fish tank is big and you can just but fake leaves and a heat rock and wood

  7. I don't have one but my best friends have been really successful with keeping their male and female alive and well.  They too had a fish tank (large) and decided to give up on the fish and turn to lizards!

So, they have some rocks, cave like rocks because the little suckers seem to really like crawling inside and being able to hide.  They also have a red heat lamp that I think you have to have (or some sort of heating pad) to keep them warm.  They also have a mixture at the bottom of the tank.  It's not like the rocks you use for a fish tank, more like shavings of wood or something along those lines.

They keep a water bowl in there and also spray them with a spray bottle everyone in a while to keep their skin mosit.  This is especially helpful when they are shedding their skin.

My friends husband feeds them worms.  He keeps them in the freezer and will put them in the tank and once they thaw and move around a little bit, they are eaten.  It's gross to me but kinda cool to watch (same with the shedding).

Their lizards are big, fat, and healty.  I would check with your pet store to make sure that you buy the right kind of things to go inside but really after the initial investment of getting the lighting, rocks, and stuff for the bottom-if you already have the tank it's very inexpensive to keep these little fellows healthy and growing!

Good luck with you new pet :)

  8. I believe you are able to, but geckos need a to be supplied with a correct environment to become healthy. I believe if you're a beginner just to go with getting a gecko kit, it comes with a 20 gallon tank, a house, and food/water bowls. It's very good for a baby gecko. But eventually you will have to replace the padding at the bottom of the tank with sand. And crickets are sold separately. No faucet water.

  9. okay first off you need to be more specific on what type of gecko it is. there are many different species of gecko on the market that range from anywhere between 4 to 14+inches as for using a fish tank i see no issue with using a fish tank as long as its big enough for the lizard to feel safe and comfortable. in fact both my gecko and my bearded dragon are living in fish tanks and have been there for quite awhile without any issues.
