and I have received 2 emails from them since-- the last said "Due to the overwhelming response to our Administrative Assistant opening. I am asking that we get right down to business. Due to the fact that we are a non-profit organization we may not be able to pay a competitive enough pay for some applicants. So, please send me your hourly wage requirements. Please keep in mind that this is a part time position which will be 20 hours a week. Thank you again for your interest in this position."

So I replied...I would leave this amount up to you, if you are able to pay minimum wage which is $6.55/hour I will be more than happy.

Was this good or bad?? I mean I really don't need a lot of money right now, I am in Nursing School and basically just need a lil extra gas and spending money so that I don't absolutely drain my bank account. I have money saved up for necessities and clothes and so forth but I don't want to completely deplete this source, so I was wanting to find some way to make a little extra cash...

What do you think?

  1. I think it was good for getting the job, but maybe not so great for getting the pay you could have.  Depending on where you live, administrative assistant jobs, even at nonprofits, often pay more than $10/hr.  But, if you really don't mind minimum wage, you definitely made yourself a more attractive candidate.  One thing you can do, if they do want to start you that low, is ask how often they do performance reviews and raises, and ask if you can have a review after 6 months, to look at how you've been doing and see if a raise is in order.

I think it's cool that you aren't greedy and have saved money even while in school, and that you're pursuing nursing.  Good luck to you!
