I’ve been looking for a new job, and applied for one job off of CareerBuilder and then I got an email to apply for the same job through Greatest Custom Careers. So I did. Will this hurt my chances? How can two places have the exact same job?

  1. The same job is at two different places because companies often list one job listing on several different job boards. It’s not uncommon to find the same job listing on Monster, Career Builder, Craig’s List, etc. I don’t think it will improve your chances, but I can’t see how it will hurt.

  2. Companies often want to gather the largest pool of candidates possible to increase their chances of getting a higher quality employee. So, they do often list the same opening on every available job board and classifieds section they can afford.

  3. I’ve seen the same job at every job site on the Internet, which means it’s pretty common. I’m sure you’re not the first person to apply for the same job twice over multiple sites. I wouldn’t worry about it.

  4. Corporate recruiters get bonuses for employees they place that last at the company for longer than 6 months. It just makes sense they’re gonna want to interview as many people as possible to ensure the person they pick is best suited for the job, and will stick with it. Listing one job on multiple boards is just the way to do that.

  5. it is not a problem at all

  6. At my store, we often get the same resume twice. We don’t think much of it. If you pass muster, we’ll interview you. If you don’t, we won’t, no matter how many applications you submit.
