  1. You don't really know the answer to this question or you wouldn't have written it on Answers. YOu are bluffing.  What other secrets do you have?

  2. Maybe it is because most people are right handed and automatically select that side tap first.

Putting the hot tap on the left makes it less likely they will accidentally choose it and scald themselves?

  3. Because it is mostly universally done that way. But at my house the way you turn them off and on is reversed due to an error the previous owner did, but we didn't change it, just got used to it. Remember to brush your teeth after your sweets.

I've seen single tap sinks (cold on the right side) and also no tap automatic ones with premixed temperature water which are my all time favorite ones as long as the sensors work. More hygenic.

And then there are the faucets with one lever - another whole area of thought for you.

Wash your hands before you eat. : )

  4. I know the answer, and I'm going to award myself TWO sweets..

  5. A nearly blind person sued a shipping company after being scalded in a shower, as they assumed that the HOT was on the LEFT

  6. The hot tap is always placed on the left in agreement with a request from the Royal Institute for the Blind, so that there is a standard acceptable to the blind.

  7. I'm so glad you know the answer to your question, now go and enjoy your sweets.

  8. Could this be a basic health & safety issue?People with no or partial sight would be able to tell which tap is which, also, with some substances,if you get them in your eyes the directions are to rinse your eyes with cold water.

Would it not make sense to know by touch which tap you are using if you can`t see?

  9. Now look what you have made me do!

I had to get up and check my taps , the hot water is not always on the left, not in my house, and it's modern enough to conform to any safety standards.

Health and safety 45 years ago? I dont think so!

  10. yes it was well over 45 years ago, more like 60 years. This was when if you even had a well, there was NO hot water and as Mezzie said Most people were right handed. With only 1 water faucet, the common choice was it to be on the right. Then when water heaters came about, no one wanted to change the cold over, so hot became left. It is also considered a safety factor by today's standards.
