I asked the question about burial and cremation?

I asked the question because my family and i had initally planned to bring my sisters ashes to rome and sprinkle them as per her request. I was told that because italy is a very religious country they wouldn't allow it.

  1. Both traditional burial and cremation are used in Italy, although the former is still much more popular.

    However, you should check with the U.S. state department and Italian authorities about carrying ashes internationally. You don't want to get caught in customs carrying questionable material. You might need some kind of documentation, such as death and cremation certificate.

  3. The law changed in 2001, and ashes can now be scattered.  They have large cemeteries in Rome and Milan with "memory gardens" specifically for that purpose.
