  1. There is no strange thinking.

Your question included "wales to VA" AND the abbreviation "AFN".  If Afn does not mean AFRICAN, that is not anyone's fault here.

Your question is completely vague and did not understand anything that you were told.  YOU DO NOT SEARCH ANCESTORS BY SURNAMES.  Sirs, knights and lords would not bother going to Virginia anyway.

You still are making the assumption that ALL ADAMS and ALL LEWIS are related, and that is false. If you want information about an ancestor, you have to know who the person is... not what some search might turn up.

  2. Typical UK snobbery.

  3. Wendy is right. YOu have to be very careful about assuming everybody with the same surname is necessarily related or shares ancestors.

Lewis for instance can be derivative of the French Huguenot  or Norman Louis or the Welsh Llewellyn.

The only way to know the ancestry of your particular Adams and Lewises is to research your family starting with yourself and working back.

If you have gotten your information from a surname product peddler selling coats of arms(misnomer family crest), you have to understand that frequently what they have is valid but it pertains to a particular individual and his direct descendants and  doesn't pertain to everyone with the same surname.

  4. Wendy C. Shirley T.and Ted Pack all make good and valid points.

However the question is not being asked by someone in Britain. Maybe someone of Welsh descent, not to be confused with English ! living in the USA ? Otherwise they would know that there is no such title as "Sir Knight" this I believe originating in Hollywood, renowned for it's ability to rewrite history to suit a story line, rather than it's ability to portray the truth.

To see if a question originates in the USA, or an English speaking country, scroll down the left side of the main page, almost to the bottom, where it says SELECT and choose either 'All English questions' or 'USA questions only'.

It can be narrowed down to a single country, e.g.Australia, by clicking on a flag icon at the bottom of the page, then selecting Australian questions only.

  5. > I asked you about adams and lewis families sorry I didn't give you a date?

That's OK, mate. We didn't give you any information, so we're even. Keep driving on the wrong side of the road, putting a "u" in words that don't need it, like "color"  and drinking your beer warm

Cherrio, and the shrimp's on the barbie!

The Leniors were older men, but their hair was still curly and their eyes were still blue. Sang like 15-stone canaries, too; rich baritones, both of them. They cut a wide swath through colonial maidenhood, and narrower ones through colonial maidenheads. George threatened them with horsewhipping unless they married his cousins, so they did.

The AF, from which springs the AFN, is only 75% accurate, I'm told. You can't trust it.
