Question:

I ate a whole bag of prunes!?! Help??

I am 7 weeks pregnant, i have not pooped in a week. I tried everything metamucil and fruit and exercises, all of that. I didn't go at all not even close. So last night I bought a bag of prunes and ate 5 (one serving) and it didnt even help. so I hurt so bad today I needed to go so bad so I ate the whole bag about 25 prunes, I feel really sick now,. However I have went to the bathroom!! but I was wondering Is that bad? they say don't take laxatives cuz the can cause spasms but can eating too many prunes do that? did I do a bad thing? what should I watch for? and what else can I try for constipation in the future?

No harm done.  Never take Metamucil unless you drink LOTS of water.  Without enough water it can actually cause constipation.  If you eat Raisin Bran every morning for breakfast, you will "go" like a well oiled machine.  Add fruit and it makes it very tasty.  I've been eating it for a while and have a bowel movement within 15 minutes of the same time each morning.  

    You should pay careful attention to your diet and make sure it included sufficient amounts of fresh fruits and vegetables.  Try to eat less fast food and junk food during your pregnancy.

  2. I drank a whole bottle of prune juice once on a dare, and was literally trapped in the bathroom for days.

    I don't think that you should worry.  Prunes are a natural laxative!

    I find that kiwi and blueberries are also good for solving constipation problems.

  3. Diet is a major factor with constipation.

    Don't eat white breads & try not to eat too much pasta.

    Eat salad everyday especially greens and roughage.

    Eat fruit like oranges and watermelon, juicy fruits.

    And above all drink more water. Not cordial or sweet drinks, water.

    It helps keep moisture in the p**p so it doesn't dry out, which happens easier during pregnancy because everything slows down.

    Continue to eat 3-4 prunes a day to help keep regular.

  4. You should be fine.  Prunes are a natures laxative.  They also are packed with vitamin c and are a good source or iron.  For constipation you could also try some lemon juice in a glass of water. Warm it up in the microwave...it works pretty quickly.  Good luck.

  5. You should ask your ob/gyn about this. To make sure everything is ok and you didnt do any harm he/she might also be able to give you some good tips to keep you going normally. I have heard that eating "p" fruits, peaches, plums, prunes, etc etc help you go, maybe you should try eating a FEW a day - every day and that might help. Best of luck hun!!!
