I been watching a lot of Japanese anime lately, how come characters are always saying "do your best"?

  1. It's a Japanese culture thing, they also tend to focus on protecting the weak and becoming stronger to do so. It's like their own form of chilvary. Also like you said they say "Do your best!" quite frequently and like I said it's just a culture thing.

Well, "ganbare" doesn't just mean "do your best", it also means "go for it", "keep fighting", and "good luck" all rolled into one.  It's just an easy to say term that is meant as general encouragement, plus the culture is more geared to say that kind of thing, so it ends up being fairly commonly used.
