Question:

I beg your pardon for being a complete idiot...?

but apparently I'm more technologically stupid than I originally thought. I am trying to burn pictures from my camera to a CD and thought I had done it (i.e. by tilting the actual CD, I see the darkened area that tells me something is on there and the computer tells me that there are files on the CD) but when I try to open the files, my computer claims that there is nothing to be viewed. I have Memorex CD-Rs that say "recordable - 52X - 700MB - 80min".

Okay, so here's the first dumb question: Can I only put music on these CDs or will photos copy also? Second dumb question: HOW do I transfer the photos from my camera to the CD (step-by-step instructions for the dummy would be appreciated since I have already wasted enough of my CDs going by my clearly inadequate instincts). Do I need to format these CDs first (and why don't they come formatted - oh sorry, that's the third dumb question) and how do I do THAT?!

No lectures, please, on self-esteem issues, as I do quite well in other areas. It's just me and the computer that don't get along so whatever help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

  1. OK - the manual for your camera or the camera maker's website may give you some help in getting the photos onto your PC.

Copy the photos to a folder on your hard drive first. If you can then view them from your hard drive, you are half-way there, since you will know that they are in the correct format to view.

Making the CD - if you just want to view them as you do off the hard drive, then you just copy (burn) the files to the CD.

There are other ways to make a photo CD such as, VideoCD, PhotoCD, like the ones you get from a photo processing store that may play in another CD player.

    This site: http://www.cdrfaq.org/

Has alot of info about recording CDs, but scroll down to section 3-9. That is where it talks about putting photos on a CD or DVD. You won't be using a scanner, since the photos are already in digital format on your camera and will stay that way when you copy them to your hard drive.

  2. This is not adequate to answer your question, but may contribute to your knowledge base.

In a number of CD-burning schemes, the files to be burned are stored in the computer's hard drive, and may be burned into the CD but in some incomplete form that can only be read by the burner software. At this time you still can change the files you wish to burn (both the content of individual files and the choice of which files you will include). Once you reach a point where you will "commit" to a certain content (though they don't call it that), the files are moved from the hard drive and burned into the CD permanently in a form that can be read by any CD reader.

If your software thinks you are in that intermediate stage, perhaps through a glitch in the process, the symptoms you describe could result.

  3. okay your first question, you can put pictures and music on the same cd, as long as you do it all at once. A CD can only be recorded one time. To add pictures, most cameras will ask you where you want to download to, if this the case download straight to the CD, If your camera does not have this option, download your pics  to a place you can locate easily. such as my documents/my picture. After you download highlight the files to be put on the cd.right click on the mouse, you'll get an option, SEND TO... you want to send to the CD..

  4. You should use software like Nero.

  5. 1st answer

You can put anything to these CD, as long as you use it as "data CD".

    2nd answer

Take out the memory card in your camera and put it in to a card reader. It look something like this

    http://www.amazon.com/USB-2-0-Hi-speed-R...

It should show up in "My Computer" as D drive or something.

Then you can use a CD recording software, like Nero, to burn the photos as "data cd". Just make sure you don't "finalize" the disk if you plan to put more photos into it some time later.

    3rd answer

You don't need to format CDs. If you use CD-RW, you can format it to reuse the disk for new data, but that it a different story.

    NOTE:

To burn a CD, the best way is to use a Burning Software like Nero. But anyway, you just see what buttons available and read everything carefully.

  6. 1.) you can putt anything you want on a cd.

2.) plug them both in. copy, paste. The click file --> write files to cd

3.) I don't think you need to format anything... Your computer should tell you if you do, do what it says.
