Question:

I believe I sprained my ankle, so why does my calf hurt?

I may have sprained my ankle from playing soccer last week. I thought it was better so I wrapped it and played again 2 days ago. Yesterday, my ankle was throbbing off and on. When it wasn't throbbing, it barely hurt at all. When it throbbed, it was like a bolt of numb pain. Today, that throbbing is more in my calf muscle and left side of my lower leg (halfway between my knee and ankle).

My ankle isn't swollen and I am walking sort of flat footed and gentle with each step.

I have a doctor's appointment on Tuesday. It's Saturday now, so what should I do? I'd only be worried if it could be a clot or blood flow problem. Thanks.

  1. You may have put too much pressure on it from playing when it wasn't completely healed. The pain may have spread from your ankles to your hamstrings.

You should rest until the pain is going away.

Try icy hot or put your legs in a tub of warm water.
